BYD Denza N8 EV Nears Launch With Over 1,000 km Claimed Range
BYD's Denza brand is preparing to launch the all-electric N8 EV, a five-seat luxury SUV with a claimed CLTC range above 1,000 km and 5-minute flash charging. Meanwhile, the second-generation Seagull and several other BYD models are also heading to market.

BYD's luxury brand Denza is close to launching the N8 EV, a large five-seat electric SUV that the company says can travel more than 1,000 km on a single charge under CLTC conditions. For buyers comparing long-range electric SUVs, the model shows how far range and fast-charging figures have moved in this segment, and it adds to a busy stretch of new BYD launches.
From plug-in hybrid to all-electric
The Denza N8 first went on sale in China in 2023 as a mid-to-large luxury SUV, offered as a plug-in hybrid with six- or seven-seat layouts. The new all-electric version keeps the same electric-only range that the hybrid achieved on a full battery and full tank combined, and Denza calls it "the king of large 5-seater pure electric vehicles."
Battery, range and charging
- A 130.15 kWh second-generation Blade Battery
- A CLTC pure electric range of up to 1,003 km (about 623 miles), which Denza describes as world-leading
- BYD's 1,500 kW Flash Charging, which takes the battery from 10% to 70% in five minutes and from 10% to 97% in nine minutes
Powertrain and size
Buyers can choose between a single-motor rear-wheel-drive version, with either 320 kW (429 hp) or 370 kW (496 hp), and a tri-motor all-wheel-drive version. The tri-motor setup combines a 270 kW front motor with two 310 kW rear motors for a total of 890 kW (1,193 hp), and it is built on BYD's e3 platform.
A regulatory filing from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in August lists the N8 EV at 5,150 mm long, 1,999 mm wide and 1,820 mm high, with a 3,075 mm wheelbase.
Cabin and design
The interior features a 30-inch central infotainment screen that stretches across most of the passenger side of the dashboard, plus a 43-inch panoramic head-up display below the windshield. Other features include ambient lighting, a three-spoke steering wheel and higher-grade materials. Spy images from Autohome show the car on public roads with a roof-mounted LiDAR unit.
Launch timing
Sources differ slightly on the date. Electrek initially reported that the car would launch on October 26. In an updated report, citing Denza general manager Li Hui on Weibo, the same outlet said pre-orders open on October 26, with the official launch in November. Pricing for the all-electric N8 has not been announced yet.
The six-seat N8L EV
BYD has also launched the N8L EV, a slightly longer six-seat electric version, measuring 5,200 mm in length. It comes in two versions: the Premium at 299,800 yuan (about $45,000) and the Flagship at 329,800 yuan ($49,000). Both use the same 130.15 kWh battery, with a CLTC range of up to 960 km (596 miles).
